This 2-year program aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge for working in line and supervisory positions in the hospitality industry. The program consists of two academic semesters and two paid industry placements.
The practical’s for the Diploma in the Hotel Management program at Alpine Center is delivered in an actual hotel campus, in order to offer students opportunities for “learning by doing,” i.e. the respected Swiss education model. Equal emphasis is given to acquiring knowledge on the operation and management of different departments and to applying it in a real business environment.
New students learn about hotel operations such as front office, housekeeping, food and beverage production and service by working on duty teams and running the hotel campus operations under the supervision of expert instructors at the same time as attending theory classes. Continuing students become more involved in the managerial aspects of hotel operations, by undertaking supervisory responsibilities such as quality control, shift plans etc.
In this way, students are not only taught ‘theory’ during the winter and ‘practice’ in their summer placement, but combine theoretical and practical knowledge during the winter term, followed by actual industry practice during the summer.
Particular emphasis is placed on developing professional competences such as effective communication, information technology, customer care, teamwork, leadership etc. by incorporating relevant ‘professionalism seminars’ into the curriculum and assessing students on their professional attitude as well as academic performance.
The 2-year Swiss Alpine Diploma in Hotel Management curriculum has been devised in collaboration with Alpine’s Industry Advisory Board, which provides advice and valuable insights on the necessary skills and knowledge that future professionals and leaders in this industry should possess. The exact breakdown of the modules is as follows:
If a student exits at the end of the first year of study, s/he will be awarded a Certificate in Hotel Operations. The second year leads to the award of the Swiss Alpine Diploma in Hotel Management which allows direct entry on to the BA(Hons) International Hospitality & Tourism Management offered at Alpine Center, Switzerland or Alpine Center, Greece.
