This two-year hotel management diploma programme that aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge for working in line and supervisory positions in the hospitality industry will combined with a third year in Europe give the students both a Swiss Diploma and a BA (Hons) degree.
The Diploma in Hotel Management programme at Alpine Center is delivered in an actual hotel campus, in order to offer students opportunities for learning by doing, i.e. the respected Swiss education model. Equal emphasis is given to acquiring knowledge on the hotel operation and hotel management of different departments and to applying it in a real business environment.
First year hotel management diploma students learn about hotel operations such as front office, housekeeping, food and beverage production and service by working on duty teams and running the hotel campus operations under the supervision of expert instructors at the same time as attending theory classes. Second year students become more involved in the managerial aspects of hotel operations, by undertaking supervisory responsibilities such as quality control, shift plans etc.
In this way, hotel management diploma students are not only taught 'theory' during the winter and 'practice' in their summer placement, but combine theoretical and practical knowledge during the winter term, followed by actual industry practice during the summer.
Particular emphasis is placed on developing professional competences such as effective communication, information technology, customer care, teamwork, leadership etc. by incorporating relevant 'professionalism seminars' into the curriculum and assessing students on their professional attitude as well as academic performance.
This combination of learning approaches expertly epitomized by Alpine for more than 24 years has led to the professional success and recognition of more than 1500 graduates, who are employed in distinguished managerial positions in the worldwide hospitality industry.
The hotel management diploma curriculum has been devised in collaboration with Alpine’s Industry Advisory Board, which provides advice and valuable insights on the necessary skills and knowledge that future professionals and leaders in this industry should possess. The exact breakdown of modules is as follows:
Hospitality Management Studies BA(Hons)
International Hospitality & Tourism Management Studies
BA(Hons) International Hospitality & Tourism Management
Our philosophy of Hospitality management studies: The hospitality industry, which includes the four principal sectors of lodging, transportation, food and beverage and recreation, is the fastest-growing industry in the world today. Whenever you travel, dine out, or spend an evening away from home, you are enjoying "hospitality".
By offering varied as well as interesting programmes of study, ALPINE can prepare you for a career in any or all sectors of the hospitality industry. Our unique approach to education and training in this field ensures that your own needs will be met - whether you are seeking a specialized position or one that will allow greater job mobility.
One of the big advantages of studying hospitality management is the transferable skills gained through such an education. Simply put, transferable skills are those that can be applied to, and are in demand by, businesses not necessarily under the umbrella of hospitality and tourism services.
In general, they are technical skills such as communications technology, people skills, sales and marketing skills, finance and accountancy skills, and the very latest in top hospitality management practices and theories. Some of ALPINE's graduates can be found working successfully in non-hospitality/tourism occupations belonging to the service management industries also known as the experience economy, including telecommunications, training and education, banking, consultancy, human resource consultancy, sales and marketing, finance, and television and broadcasting to name a few.
